Candidate for
Board of Directors; La Habra Heights County Water District

Friends, I am running for a seat on the water board. You may have heard the expression: "life grows where water flows". Protecting your interest in this life-giving resource is my number one priority. In speaking with residents, several issues seem to be of concern: water quality, water pressure and water availability for personal use and fire emergencies. My objective is to improve service in these areas.

As Vice President of a news & production organization, I have worked with the public for 22 years. My experience includes management and oversight of operations on a daily basis. My engineering background and strong logistics skills can help our water district in making quick rationale decisions.

I have lived in the Heights for 7 years. I am a member of The La Habra Heights Fire Watch and regularly participate in our City government and various community volunteer groups.

I adamantly believe in the public's right to know. Government agencies should never profess to "fly under the radar". The water district should establish a website where relevant information would be posted. Having a detailed website would help ensure transparency and accountability.

I do not support the "Fix-As-You-Go" approach to the infrastructure maintenance of such a vital utility. The district should investigate the age and condition of pipelines and work to replace them before they fail and cause damage to public and private property.

The water district can help ensure our rural character is protected with polices that are in keeping with our City's General Plan. The establishment of an Agricultural Water Rate can accommodate re-vegetation and replanting of orchards and groves. This would convert our volatile brush and weeds into thriving green belts reducing the threat of wildfires.
