Expanded Biography Smart Voter

I have attended most CVWD regular board meetings over the last 10 years. I referred to myself sometimes as, "the token public" since local water board meetings are not always well attended. I learned much about water issues and management of the local district at those meetings.

One of the most important things I learned is that the CVWD does an excellent job both with its management and staff and the CVWD board of community members overseeing them. Over the last years, some in our community suggested I run for the CVWD board. My response was, "if it isn't broken, don't fix it" and I did not run to replace board members.

In 2007, one of the board members resigned and I was asked to place my name before the board for that position. I was selected by the board for that position, from a pool of several community members. I believe my continued interest, growing knowledge about water issues, and accessibility to the CVWD community members led to that selection. I appreciate their faith in me and have taken every opportunity, in many volunteer hours of educational instruction, meetings and conferences to bring balanced knowledge and technical expertise to CVWD meetings.

I know CVWD customers, many from the many years I worked for Ralphs in La Crescenta. Other community members know me from my work as a member of and past president of the Town Council, as member and past President of the Crescenta-Canada Board of REALTORS, currently as treasurer of the Montrose-Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce and member of the Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce.

I grew up in La Crescenta, attended local schools and graduated from California State University at Los Angeles. with both a BA and MA in Government. My wife, Andrea,and I have been married for 41 years and have one daughter and three grandsons living in the community.

I have received awards over the years for community service, some of those awards are:

County of Los Angeles, January 2001, Commendation for Service as Crescenta Valley Town Council President for 2000 by Supervisor Michael Antonovich.

County of Los Angeles Commendation as State Commissioner April 2003: "In recognition of dedicated service to the affairs of the community and for the civic pride demonstrated by numerous contributions for the benefit of all the citizens of Los Angeles County" from Supervisors Michael Antonovich,Yvonne B. Burke, Gloria Molina, Zev Yaroslazsky, Don Kanabe.

County of Los Angeles Commendation May 29,2006 Memorial Day Service of the Montrose-Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce given by Supervisor Michael Antonovich.
