Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Josue Alvarado

Candidate for
Governing Board Member; South Whittier Elementary School District

This information is provided by the candidate

Dear voter and South Whittier neighbor,

My name is Josué Alvarado and as a proud parent and resident of South Whittier, I have chosen to run for the South Whittier Elementary School Board. I am writing this letter to inform you why I am motivated to step in and serve as your Board Member and request your vote on Tuesday November 3, 2009.

Various school districts throughout the State of California (including the South Whittier School District) are facing very real and serious financial challenges. Painful and severe cuts are happening in our classrooms, and they are directly impacting our children's education. During this critical time, there are NO ACTIVE PARENTS in our local School Board to address the needs of our children.

As a father of an eight year old 3rd grader, the most important thing I, or any other parent, could do for their child's education is to be actively involved. Listed below are just a few of the committees/volunteer opportunities I have invested my skills and time as well as my education which have prepared me for the position of South Whittier Board Member:

Volunteer o Carmela Elementary School Site Council President (2008-Present) o South Whittier Parent Advisory Committee (2008-Present) o Carmela Elementary PTA Member (2008-Present) o Basketball Coach and Volunteer at Mayberry Park (1993-1997)

Education o B.A Degree in Business Administration (Management Emphasis) California State University Fullerton o Attended Mc Kibben, South Whittier (Now Graves Middle School), and California High School.

If you have any questions regarding my candidacy or concerns regarding the well being of our schools; please feel free to reach out to me at (562) 686-7059. I respectfully ask for your vote this Tuesday November 3, 2009. Together we can give the children of this community a fighting chance for a better future.

Sincerely,

Josué Alvarado
