Humboldt Bay District Accomplishments:
- Providing leadership for the district's request for funds for to establish a Marine Highway Support project that could result in up to $20 million dollars of support to help us start up our a short sea shipping program.
- Established the Economic Development committee that has brought substantive dialogue about how the district can help diversify and stabilize our local economy.
- Advocated for the creation of and participated in a multi-agency trail planning effort resulting in the City of Arcata receiving 1.1 million in funding for design and permitting for a trail from Arcata to Breacut (half way to Eureka) and California Costal Trail planning.
- Lead the effort to attain $100,000 in funding to partner with RCAA to establish a water trail program and worked closely with the project team
- Worked to obtain matching funds with the City of Arcata and Friends of the Arcata Marsh for a new dock for the boat ramp at the Arcata Marsh.
- Worked to obtain matching funds with the USFWS for a tide gate survey used to protect wetlands from oil spill and prioritize repairs for fish passage upgrades.
- Advocated for the district to lease the Samoa round house to the Timber Heritage Association for their museum complex and train collection.
- Advocated for the NCRA to restart of an effort to get billboards removed from their easement that pollute the shore of our bay.
- Supported multiple wetland restoration projects around Humboldt Bay.
- Supported ban on offshore oil drilling
- Institutionalized the Humboldt Bay Symposium as a District Program
- Partnered with USFWS on Coho salmon acoustic tagging project and
- Activated Foreign Trade Zone #248 with City of Eureka
- Initiated and coordinated SeagrassNet international eelgrass monitoring project in Humboldt Bay
