I promise to make decisions that provide the best possible educational outcome for all students. I will reach out to educational and community stakeholders, so that my decisions are based upon the needs of the Eureka School Community to enable student to achieve their best.
Because of the state financial crisis, schools are facing very difficult budget decisions. Eureka City Schools has many exemplary programs, and tough decisions will need to be made in order to maintain a quality education yet keep the district fiscally sound. Long range financial planning must be based upon the needs of our students and their well being.
Our district receives students into the middle and high schools from South Bay, Cutten, Freshwater, Kneeland and Garfield School Districts. Eureka City Schools needs to build strong relationships with these educational partners to ensure a continuity of community and programs as students transition from one district into another.
- Higher Education/Vocational Transitions for All Students
Eureka city Schools must create a post secondary education (both college and vocational training)culture. Post secondary education is key to building a strong community and economy. Eureka City Schools needs to empower students to continue their education in order to compete in a global economy.
- Strong Outreach to Community
Involvement is a vital element in building effective schools. I support the development of close relationships with community and business organizations. Additionally, a formal process for parent involvement should be developed at the district level including the establishment of an Educational Foundation made up of parents and community members.
