About Trina Williams Trina Williams is a fierce advocate of education. As a community organizer and educator, she saw first hand the strengths and troubles of communities and school systems. Trina believes that every child, regardless of race, culture, or economic status has a right to a great public education. She learned early in life that the only way to bring about positive change is to become as active as possible in the process. In both professional and volunteer capacities, Trina created tangible solutions to today's problems. She developed programs in the fields of college prep, gang prevention/intervention, mental health, academic counseling, and cultural arts. Trina understands that addressing the whole needs of a child helps them excel in the classroom as well. In 2007, Trina was elected to the Inglewood Unified School District Board of Education. Since then, she's been a fiscal watchdog and an outspoken representative of tax payers. She's also continued to create opportunities to work directly with students. She has worked with the district's Recidivism Program and tailored her own youth mentoring program to meet the specific needs of the students within the IUSD. Trina is currently the Vice President of the Board of Education, Vice President of the Inglewood South Bay Branch-NAACP, Educational Advisor to the Jonathan Reid Family Rights Coalition, and Vice President of the Great Beginnings for Black Babies non-profit organization. Trina was born in Portsmouth, Virginia. Growing up in the South as the youngest daughter of a large family, Trina discovered first-hand the benefits of a public learning environment in which parents, principals, teachers, and community leaders work together to prepare students for success. |
