TaxationBy Jan CmarCandidate for Member, Council; Borough of Jefferson Hills | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
My position was and will always be to protect all Jefferson Hills taxpayers. One of my goals as a Councilor has always been to hold the line on taxes. Especially in these troubling times, it is vital to keep the money in the pockets of the taxpayer. However, to keep the tax rate the same, Council must make difficult decisions, and must evaluate alternative financing choices, some of which I have supported over the years. For some perspective on my performance, in the year 2000 the entire County underwent a much publicized reassessment. As Borough Council moved to establish a new millage rate, I worked to ensure the lowest possible municipal taxes. "Council tabled action on a new budget and proposed tax rate of 4.83 mills after Councilwoman Jan Cmar said she would like to see the tax reduced." The Pittsburgh Post Gazette, January 10, 2001. Council would approve a rate of 4.63 mills two weeks later. When Council moved to raise property taxes in 2004, I voted no. My belief is that we can reduce costs with better leadership and a reasoned approach to public projects. My position was and will always be to protect all Jefferson Hills taxpayers. |
