I have served as PTA president at both our elementary and middle schools, and I have served on the Building Planning Councils -- the state-mandated shared decision-making team -- for both schools as well. I have served the Croton-Harmon School District as Chairman of the Elections and as a member of the 2004 Strategic Long Range Planning Committee. I was also a parent representative on a recent principal search committee. For the PTA I piloted a series of family fun nights, bringing district families together in support of the schools to enjoy games, dancing, art projects: low-tech, low-cost camaraderie. I wrote and edited newsletters and bulletins, and worked on parent education meetings, book fairs, all kinds of enrichment programs, field day, author visits, staff appreciation events, coffee with the principal, graduation receptions, visiting artists, spirit day, lunch programs, the DARE celebration, comedy night, Literary Club events, and more, in addition to evaluating expenditures, seating board members, and leading the organization.
I have primarily been at home with my children for the past few years while doing occasional writing and editing. The focus of my career has been in media and communications, including positions as director of promotions for a syndicator of radio programming, research analyst at CBS Television Networks Long Range Planning, research assistant at Tribune Broadcasting, and independent promotions consultant for radio stations.
