Candidate for
Board Member; Pleasant Valley Elementary School District

I have been a resident of Camarillo for 15 years. My wife Sandy was born and reared in Camarillo, attending Las Posas Elementary, Monte Vista Middle and Rio Mesa High schools. We have been married for 26 years and our son, Spencer, is a fourth-grader at Santa Rosa Technology Magnet School.

We have always lived in the Heights area of Camarillo, choosing to move to the city when Spencer was going to be born to be closer to our families.

I have spent my professional career as a journalist, primarily in sports. I have been a sports writer for the Los Angeles Times in San Diego and for the San Diego Union newspapers. I was founding editor of Volleyball Magazine, helping build it from the ground to a circulation of more than 80,000.

I returned to newspapers, becoming an assistant sports editor at the Los Angeles Daily News for seven years. I left newspapers when Spencer was in kindergarten because of the late-night and weekend work required.

I was lucky to be able to take more than a year work, spending a lot of time volunteering in Spencer's first-grade class and with the school's PTA.

Currently, I am an editor/writer for Move, Inc., a real estate, home improvement and home finance Web site in Westlake Village.

During the majority of my professional career, I have been a manager and have been responsible for significant budgets. My journalism, managing and budgeting experience will allow be to make a positive contribution as member of the PVSD Board of Trustees.
