Cameron Mangels first answered the call of public service in 1995 when he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He served as a member of the Security Forces, specializing in air base-ground defense for the famed 1st Fighter Wing. During his enlistment, Cam served on three deployments to the Middle East during a time of heightened tensions, and increasing activity by extremists in the region. In addition to his security duties, he was entrusted with the additional tasks of rewriting and modernizing the unit's training manuals. Cam eventually returned to the USA where he served the final year of his enlistment as a trainer and a Central Security Control dispatcher. In 1999, Cam received an honorable discharge from the Air Force. Cam returned home to California where he worked in the private sector as a web site designer and computer technician. Cam soon developed the computer skills necessary to create his own web site design business and at the same time he was attending community college. Cam applied for and was accepted at the California State University at Fullerton to earn a B.A. in Political Science, which he was awarded in 2006. During his time at CSUF, Cam once again answered the call of public service when he sought out and accepted an internship with the City of Garden Grove. Assigned to community relations, Cam was often responsible for writing official city documents as well as preparing and writing speeches for the mayor and city council members. When the time came for the City's web site to be overhauled the task fell to Cam. Upon completion of the new web site, Cam won praise from city officials and residents alike for its effectiveness and ease of use. Cam was raised in Southern California where his parents taught him the values of honesty, integrity, charity and hard work. Cam shares his good fortune with others by spending his free time volunteering for various charities in the local area including Kiwanis and the Garden Grove Community Foundation. Cam has also volunteered for various political campaigns and causes. |
