United States Representative; District 40

My name is Christina Avalos and I am the Democratic-endorsed nominee for the 40th Congressional District.

For many years I have been active in the community promoting the well-being of those who are often unrepresented and whose voices are unheard. As a counselor of those afflicted with drug addiction, alcoholism, AIDS and domestic violence, I have personally encountered and encouraged them and their loved ones, seeking solutions to their problems. That is why I am in favor of universal healthcare, because everyone deserves quality healthcare. With your vote, I will push to end our involvement in Iraq, where the amount we spend for 40 days would pay for healthcare for 10 million American children for one year. We also have a duty to care in every way for our veterans because they have given their all for us.

There are many issues affecting all of us, especially the economy, energy and the environment. The solutions are intertwined in that the economy would be boosted with new green-collar jobs if we seek environmentally-friendly energy sources. Reducing our dependence on fossil fuels is an environmental and national security imperative.
