To maintain academic excellence by continuing emphasis on math, science, reading, and writing; keeping schools from losing qualified teachers; and enhancing well-rounded curriculum, including music and art, shall Belmont-Redwood Shores Elementary School District collect an annual education parcel tax of $78 for seven years, with independent community oversight of all expenditures, no funds for administrator salaries, an exemption for senior citizens 65 and over, and all funds staying in local schools to protect high-quality education?

Arguments For Measure U
Voting YES on Measure U will preserve high quality education in our local Belmont and Redwood Shores schools so that students continue to achieve.

Neighborhood elementary and middle schools in Belmont-Redwood Shores School District are among the top in the state. With California Distinguished School Awards, highly qualified teachers and well-rounded academic programs that include math, science, reading, writing, music and the arts, our schools help students achieve top scores on statewide exams.

These award-winning schools help make our community a desirable place to live, and keep property values high.

Yet, billions of dollars in state budget cuts threaten our schools. That is why voting YES on Measure U is essential. It will provide local, stable funding for our elementary and middle schools that cannot be taken by the state.

If Measure U fails, our schools face serious budget cuts to academic programs and we could lose some of our highly qualified teachers.

Measure U will maintain academic excellence in our local schools by:

  • Maintaining math and science programs

  • Maintaining reading and writing programs

  • Keeping schools from losing qualified teachers

  • Supporting a well-rounded curriculum, including music and art

All Measure U funds will stay right here in our local schools -- the state cannot take a single dime.

No Measure U funds can be spent on administrator salaries. Independent citizen oversight and annual audits of all funds will ensure fiscal accountability.

An exemption is available for senior citizens.

We simply can't rely on the state government to maintain the excellent education we expect from our schools. Vote YES on Measure U to ensure stable, reliable funding for neighborhood schools and protect students and teachers from the worst of state budget cuts.

Please join us. Vote YES on Measure U. Help local elementary and middle school students continue to achieve academic excellence.
