Community Colleges are the backbone to California's economy. Community Colleges provide the opportunity for an education to all students.California Community Colleges educate more students each year than UC and CSU combined yet receive less funding than K-12. Lay boards were created to ensure that educational institutions were responsive to the needs of the communities they serve. Boards are responsible for the resources, performance and welfare of the institutions they govern. Now that we are in the 21st Century it is crucial that the Cuesta Board be responsive to the needs of the students, citizens and communities they serve. I am a 42 year resident of San Luis Obispo and have been an active volunteer for 34 of those years. I first volunteered at Playhouse Nursery School when Gail and Greg started pre-school. Then it was on to PTA, 4-H, Friday Night Live and The Partnership for the Children. I am a former member of the SLO County Civil Service Commission, Atascadero State Hospital Advisory Board and the State Advisory Group on Juvenile Justice & Delinquency Prevention. I am also a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Experience is essential during this critical time of economic uncertainty. I have lobbied for education (k-12 and Community Colleges) at both the state and federal level and have a positive working relationship with our local, state and federal legislators. I would appreciate your vote on November 4th so that I can continue to work with Cuesta's faculty, staff and administration to provide the best possible education to ALL Cuesta College Students. |
