through partnership and collaboration and open governance Delta College can better serve the needs of students and communities,San Joaquin Delta College needs new leadership. Endangered accreditation and inept management of building funds are two serious challenges for the College. Fiscal management is one of the skills I will bring to the Board from my 30 years as an architect. During my 5 year tenure as State Architect, I was responsible for reviewing community college construction projects, experience that can readily be put to use on Delta's behalf. I understand the Trustees' role as a policy making Board. I believe in honest, transparent government where decisions are made in the open. These are cornerstones of my campaign. I believe in partnership and collaboration with the entire San Joaquin Delta College community. A successful architect must have well honed listening skills as well as the ability to analyze data and suggest viable solutions when faced with competing interests. I will bring these skills to the Board. A Stockton native, I have lived my whole life in the District. The last 25 years I have resided in Calaveras County with my wife Linda Derivi who is also an architect. Our two children are graduates of California's college system. I know the value of education to our family and to our community at large. Education has the power to improve lives and communities. San Joaquin Delta College has a critical role in supplying a trained and educated workforce which will attract employers and keep talented employees here. As trustee, I will work to ensure that our community college prospers. |
