Political Philosophy for Norman Yee

San Francisco is undergoing great change, and nowhere do we see it more than in our schools. Demographic shifts and an exodus of families leaving our great City require us to take a good, hard look at who our district is serving and how well we are meeting their specific needs. I believe that the same qualities I brought to my last term-reason?, cooperation, dedication and experience-will serve us well in facing the challenges that lie ahead. Strong leadership over the past four years has seeded a fertile ground for building a high quality education system rooted in values that embrace parents and communities as partners to support every student to reach his/her fullest potential. To accomplish this, we must develop policies that support positive changes to our education system and we must support leadership that can maintain focus on raising our students' educational experience in San Francisco. We recently introduced new leadership to our staffing with the hiring of a new Superintendent of our schools. We agreed on a strategic plan to "Balance the Scorecard" and provide our District with meaningful direction. The voters in San Francisco have approved resources necessary to support the District, support that the State has not provided for decades. We have developed collaborative partnerships with our teachers union, parent groups, the communities and City government. We have laid the groundwork for change and the District now stands poised to continue the progress we've made in the last four years, towards the world class education system that we all envision for our City's students. I am running for re-election to bring our District past the tipping point toward positive results. I have a proven track record and I will continue to provide the strong leadership that is necessary to stay the course. |
