Candidate for
Board Member; Poway Unified School District

We moved to Poway 25 years ago and I was told to, "Join the PTA Board to meet people". One year later, I was president of the PTA, then Palomar Council PTA, then Vice President of Legislation and Communication at 9th District PTA (San Diego County). I also volunteered in other school and community programs including numerous PTA positions, school site council, classroom volunteer, team mom and scout leader. When our three children attended high school, I co-chaired one Grad Nite and served as Underwriting Chair for the other two. I was a volunteer for the Palomar Pomerado Hospital bond campaign and am the board representative to the Poway Chamber of Commerce Governmental Affairs Committee.

I was appointed to the PUSD Board of Education in 1998 from a field of 26 candidates and have served on the Board for the past 10 years. My service as VP of Legislation for 9th District PTA prepared me to be an effective lobbyist on behalf of students. The various organizations in which I currently participate offer many opportunities for collaboration with other elected officials. As a Board member, I have worked to foster a positive working relationship with fellow elected officials and I continue to campaign on behalf of students and public education.
