My fellow Oceanside voters. I want to tell you about myself so you'll have a chance to get to know me better. My public experience began in my hometown of Birmingham, Michigan, about 20 miles north of Detroit. I was elected to 8 years as City Council Member, Deputy Mayor and Mayor. That is also where I raised my son as a single parent. My professional career spanned over 31 years in Public Safety 911 Emergency Communications (Police, Fire/EMS). I retired from the city of San Francisco as Director of their 911 Emergency Communications Department, a department of over 200 employees and a budget of over 20 million dollars. I was the first civilian (non-sworn) Director of 911 operations in the 150 year history of Police, Fire & EMS. I was selected after a nationwide search. After retiring from San Francisco, I spent 2 years with the Department of Homeland Security, Washington D.C. as Director of their Emergency Communications Center. When my wife Jeanne and I moved to Oceanside we felt right at home. Infact I remember telling our friends and relatives that Oceanside was our "new hometown". So as we have always done, we got involved in the community. I was appointed by the City Council to the Arts Commission. I am a member of Rotary, the Oceanside Museum of Art and on the Board of the Oceanside Charitable Foundation. My whole life has been one of Public Service and I take that Trust and Responsibility very seriously and have always executed the duties with the utmost of Honesty & Integrity. |
