Candidate for
Board Member; Cajon Valley Union School District

Our community needs great schools: safe, academically excellent environments, nurturing the whole child. In the twenty-first century, our education must prepare our children for the global and interdependent world in which we live. Our schools need to keep pace with increasing technology and global and environmental awareness. We need to develop students who are principled, caring, well-balanced, and reflective. Students that are not only knowledgeable, but curious inquirers, thinkers, communicators and risk takers.

I know this District and understand the issues it faces because I have served it:

• Co-Chair of the Superintendent's Advisory Budget Committee

• The Learning Environment Task Force: This superintendent advisory committee examined declining enrollment and explored reasons and solutions. The goal was to make recommendations to improve the district and to encourage more parents to choose public schools. The committee made recommendations for all-day kindergarten, a school bond to build/refurbish schools and establish new magnet schools.

• I worked on the campaign to pass Proposition D - the bond our school district needed to refurbish our aging schools. Currently, I serve on the Citizen's Oversight Committee to oversee the use of the funds.

• Magnet School Committee: This committee examined possible magnet schools and recommended a middle school fine arts magnet as well as an International Baccalaureate elementary and middle school.
