Protect our Quality of LifeBy Maggie HoulihanCandidate for Council Member; City of Encinitas | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Environmental quality and economic vitality go hand in hand.I believe environmental quality and economic vitality go hand in hand and our high property values and sales tax revenues reflect this. My agenda is to preserve the charm and ambiance of our five unique communities; close development loopholes; acquire dwindling open space; protect our beaches and bluffs, preserve and restore the 101 North tree canopy and approve an urban tree management program; champion transparent government and full citizen participation; require fiscal prudence and accountability; and support our local businesses. Making environmentally sound land-use decisions will pay dividends for years to come. I will continue to promote a healthy economy and continue to be your fiscal watchdog to ensure your tax dollars are spent wisely. I pass only balanced budgets and will continue funding our city's 20% contingency reserve. I will continue to foster a pro-business environment through civic programs, historic preservation, arts and culture, recreational opportunities, and environmental protection. Our quaint coastal city, its beautiful natural environment and vibrant cultural activities are essential contributors to its economic vitality. I will continue to work to preserve open space and lagoons. I am dedicated to preserving irreplaceable coastal and inland habitats by stepping up the purchase of open space before it is gone, ensuring clean ocean water, beach sand replenishment, and restoration of San Elijo Lagoon. |
