Russell Coronado: KID TESTED - PARENT APPROVED!!

Hi, my name is Russell Coronado. I am running for the Chula Vista Elementary School Board. Why? I have two children, Kailey and Caden, in our Chula Vista Schools, where my wife, Alice, volunteers her time. I am a child advocate, community organizer, volunteer and educator with over seventeen years of experience in education, which include School Psychologist, School Director and currently Special Education Coordinator and University Instructor. My past experiences and current employment along with past and current committee and board work, have been driven by a simple philosophy: I am a voice for children.

I believe that all children should be successful academically and socially. They should be proficient in reading, writing, math and computer skills. As a former School Psychologist and School Director with the Chula Vista Elementary School District, I developed and directed an Alternative School, The Daly Academy, for children with significant behavior problems. It was recognized by the California Department of Education as a State Model. I understand the social and academic challenges that face our children.

My mission as a School Board Member is to work tirelessly for our children's future and our district, to accomplish the goals of: accelerating gains in school performance and closing the achievement gap; support and promote professional development for our teachers, which will translate into academic and social excellence for every child; continue to meet regularly with local, state and federal legislators to advocate on behalf of our children, educators and our community.

Over the past seventeen years, I have developed the skills and experience to achieve these goals. My knowledge of school policies, rules and regulations, curriculum, instruction and effective service delivery have benefited the students, families, teachers and schools I have served. I am deeply committed to the education of all children. The pledge I make to you is that as a Board Member, I will continue to work with this same determination and compassion, together with the students, parents, teachers and district staff in order to accomplish this mission and goals.
