San Diego County, CA | November 4, 2008 Election |
BACKGROUNDBy Charlene (Gertz) Anderson, R.N.Candidate for Board Member; Tri-City Healthcare District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
My journey into healthcare was shaped by my life's struggles.I grew up in a Navy family, moving many times and being very aware of the political affairs in this country. My Dad retired from the Navy in '63 and began a second career where he became a well known TV Meteorologist in the Washington DC metropolitan area. Attending high school in our nation's capital, my concern for our soldiers in Viet Nam motivated me to go into nursing. Interested in joining the Navy after school, I became a Licensed Vocational Nurse graduating with honors at the young age of 19 years. Prior to attending school for my Registered Nurse, in 1971, I relocated to San Diego, CA -- married, and ready to start a family! By 1978, I moved to Fallbrook, divorced with two children, whose personal struggles shaped my passion for life strengthening my work ethics and values. As my children grew older, driven to become a Registered Nurse, I found the wherewithal to make my dream come true. Working nights, going to school during the day, in 1991, I graduated from Palomar College with an Associates Degree in Nursing with honors. |
