Political Philosophy for Ciaran Gerard O'Donnell, Ph.D

I am a supporter of a common sense business like attitude to government. I believe that government has basic functions like maintaining streets, fighting crime, projecting a good image of the city, and providing needed services to residents. There are 14,000 children in Santa Clara schools today. I applaud the proud parents of these children and they are the future of our city. Let's work to care for these children and give them the best experience at schools, on the weekend, and at baseball and sports. Each city has its own history but in the Bay Area today we are all juxtaposed. We are very fortunate to have residents from many countries including Russia, India, and the Philippines. I believe we need to educate our residents on what makes Santa Clara special and its history. I do not like bickering over issues or between groups. We are all human beings and we have different points of view on many issues. My basic philosophy is that we are more united than divided, for example on the green policy of Santa Clara, Silicon Valley Power, and developing the downtown. I am a big believer in balance and subsidiarity. By optimizing the work of city boards and encouraging people to volunteer we ensure the future of our city. Our city staff is key to the success of our city. Every resident should respect staff and the city should promote their career as a public official including work training.
