Jamie McLeod was elected to the Santa Clara City Council in 2004 and served as Vice-Mayor in 2005. Jamie brings public, private and non-profit sector experience to her role as Councilwoman and has worked to protect our City's quality of life by:

  • Promoting environmental sustainability
  • Championing fiscal responsibility
  • Ensuring transparency and open government for all Santa Clarans

A strong advocate for women, children and families, Jamie worked for many years with refugee and immigrant communities in Silicon Valley and abroad. Jamie has worked to build healthy neighborhoods for over 20 years, with experiences ranging from mediating community disputes to coaching girls' soccer to repairing schools in war-torn Bosnia. As Regional Director of the International Rescue Committee in San Jose, she focused on economic development issues, including self-sufficiency, affordable housing, healthcare and education. She has continued this commitment to families and communities in her elected role.

As a Councilwoman, Jamie has taken a lifelong commitment to sustainability. She co-founded the Santa Clara County Green Building Coalition, which developed regional green building standards that have been adopted by most cities in Santa Clara County. In her current employment as an Environmental Planner with the Santa Clara Valley Water District, Jamie focuses on the County's groundwater recharge system.

In 2006, Jamie attended the Harvard University Senior Executives in State and Local Government leadership program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Jamie and her partner, Vanessa Cooper, are homeowners close to Santa Clara University.
