Political Philosophy for Mike Kasperzak
Candidate for |
I believe that the Citizens of Mountain View elect their Council Members to make ethical decisions that are based on complete information, the input of all stakeholders, recommendations from the professional City Staff and that will ultimately be in the best interests of the City of Mountain View as a whole. Even then, each elected official will make different decisions based on their background and beliefs. It should the role of government to balance competing interests and manage the conflicts of a community while making a concerted effort not to over-regulate. As a community grows, individual interests can collide with those of the community as well as those of a neighbor. For example, what is more important, tall, beautiful trees, or a neighbor's solar panel? Should government interfere with private property rights or dictate how a neighborhood should look? Ultimately, I believe voters elect individuals who are willing to make difficult decisions based on the facts, community input, and a balancing of interests rather than on poll results or the loudest voices at a Council meeting. |
