Vicki was raised in the East Bay town of Alameda and was the youngest of 5 children. She moved to Sacramento in 1983 and now views the River City as her hometown. Vicki has been married for 23 years and her husband is also actively involved in the SCUSD. Husband, Michael Simpson, currently serves as Vice-Chair for the SCUSD District Advisory Committee (DAC). Vicki, as well as Michael, comes from a family of Educators and both understand the importance of quality education for all. They have one daughter, who is a current SCUSD student, and are raising her to understand the value of education and community involvement.

Vicki was raised in a family that values community involvement and volunteerism. As such she has been involved in many efforts over the years including fundraising for the following organizations/causes: American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association and Susan B. Komen Race for the Cure.

Vicki completed her undergraduate degree at California State University Sacramento achieving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Communications. She also received a Certificate of Recognition from CSUS for her studies in American Sign Language. In 2005 Vicki completed the coursework necessary to achieve the recognition as a Mediator.
