Candidate StatementBy Perry L MetzgerCandidate for Director; Cordova Recreation and Park District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
My family has participated in many of the recreation and park programs. I would like to offer something back to the community in the way of serving on the Recreation/Park Board.I have been a 32-year resident of Sacramento County. My children participated in many of the community area swim teams and soccer programs. For the last several years, I have been enrolled in the Recreation and Parks oil painting class taught by Ted Allebes at the Cordova Senior Activities Center. I would like to offer something back to the community because I appreciate all of the opportunities the community provided to my family. I feel my professional and management experience would be a natural fit for the Cordova Park and Recreation Director position. As a retiree, my background includes 31 years of experience as a civil engineer/project manager for the U.S Army Corps of Engineers. I am a registered civil engineer and licensed building contractor in the State of California. While working for the Federal government my duties included the feasibility, design and construction of civil works projects. During my career with the Corps, I prepared budgets, coordinated project for federal, state, and local governments, and worked with planners, designers, engineers, realtors, and biologists. Among other things, my work included the planning and construction of a number of campgrounds and recreation facilities. These recreation facilities included the campgrounds and park areas at New Melones Lake, development of the Stanislaus River Park, and boat ramps and restrooms at Lakes Kaweah and Success. I have served for 16-years on the Fruitridge Vista Association Board of Directors as treasurer. I'm also a partner in a small civil engineering consulting business that provides civil, sanitary and environmental engineering services. Recently, I served on a Sacramento County committee concerning traffic calming in south Sacramento that resulted in the construction of speed bumps and other traffic slowing devices. If elected, I will place a high priority on public safety. As a fiscal conservative, assure the citizens of Rancho Cordova will get the highest value from their parks and recreation facilities. |
