The city must become more fiscally responsible while working within its budget. We need to develop a business-friendly environment which will strengthen our local economy, create new jobs and increase tax revenue without raising taxes or fees. I will cut wasteful spending and work to end frivolous city lawsuits.
During these troubled economic times, our city must look for creative and innovative ways to save money, eliminate wasteful spending, reduce the use of outside consultants and increase revenue wherever possible. I do not believe we are doing enough to reduce spending as evidenced by the need to initiate a measure to increase the sales tax to provide basic public safety. Police services should be at the top of the budget, not the bottom. We are 2 million dollars short over the next two fiscal periods. We are using our general fund reserve to make up the budget short fall. We must spend our money wisely and end our practice of deficit spending. Any savings realized should be passed onto the citizens to reduce fees. I will work to end expensive and unnecessary city lawsuits that waste tax dollars. I work in the private sector, in the building industry. I know what we have to do to run lean. I have great admiration for our business leaders who run within a budget, save for the down times, and expect those who work for them to give one hundred percent to achieve success. I plan to take what I have been taught to work for the citizens of Galt. Together we can build a fiscally healthy and vibrant community.
