I Believe:

  • Students should be the highest priority in all we do.
  • Every student, parent and employee needs to be empowered and held accountable for their role in the teaching/learning process.
  • All students deserve equal access to the highest quality academic, vocational and technological education; including opportunities in the arts and extracurricular experiences to support career path choices.
  • Local businesses, private and public agencies and the entire community should be integral partners in the educational process.
  • All individuals deserve to be treated with dignity, courtesy, and respect in an environment that is physically, emotionally and educationally safe and healthy.

Essential Outcomes:
  • All students will meet or exceed grade level/content standards as defined by the Board.
  • All students will have the essential skills to maximize their opportunities for post-secondary education and/or career pursuits.

Learning Environment:
  • Provide facilities, equipment, supplies and materials as needed to support student learning.
  • Provide a safe, secure, and healthy learning and working environment.

Student Achievement:
  • Identify and communicate the essential standards for each subject and grade level.
  • Ensure that all students and schools make progress toward the attainment of grade level/content standards.
  • Exit Program Improvement Status (9 schools in OUSD are currently under this classification).
  • Motivate students to excel in the classroom and on state tests to maximize their learning and to compete with other schools and school districts.
  • Provide differentiated instruction, early interventions, expanded course offerings, and alternative programs to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Provide in-house training that teachers, support staff, and administrators need to do their jobs effectively.
  • Reduce the achievement gap by raising the proficiency of under-achieving students.
  • Enable accelerated learners to progress at maximum rate.
  • Celebrate student attendance and success.
  • Address the counseling needs of students.
  • Prioritize the district and site budgets to meet the needs of students.
  • Provide adequate numbers of highly qualified permanent and substitute staff.
  • Provide enhanced nutritional education and opportunities for improved physical fitness for students and staff.

Support for Parents and Community:
  • Increase business participation and provide opportunities for students to apply academic skills in real world situations.
  • Ensure active engagement of all neighborhoods and communities.
  • Provide parent education and involve parents in their children's education.

Organizational Improvement:
  • Seek, support and encourage open and honest communication with students, parents, employees, and the extended community.
  • Build trust through ongoing collaborative relationships with positive interactions and behaviors.
  • Involve those affected by decisions in the decision-making process.
  • Evaluate and improve the quality and effectiveness of our educational programs annually.
  • Create a climate throughout the organization in which risk taking and innovation are valued, encouraged and supported.
  • Promote the effective use of technology to increase learning and productivity for students and employees.
  • Create systems and strategies that promote, support and require integrity and accountability.
  • Recruit and retain the highest quality employees that embrace the organizational core values.
