MIKE WHIPPLE FOR WATER BOARD DIRECTOR, DIVISION 4 OF THE MOULTON NIGUEL WATER DISTRICT Council Member Mike Whipple has been a resident of Laguna Niguel since 1974. He is married with two children and has five grandchildren. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from California State University, Long Beach in 1966 and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of California Los Angeles in 1970. He worked as a professional Civil Engineer and as a Financial Consultant and Investment Banker. He retired in 1995 and dedicated his time to community and charitable activities. Mike served as Laguna Niguel Leader of the campaigns to stop the El Toro Airport. In recognition of his community service, Mike was selected Laguna Niguel Citizen of the Year for 1999. Mike was elected to Laguna Niguel City Council in 2000 and re-elected in 2004. Mike serves with the following organizations: Citizen Advisory Council of the Moulton Niguel Water District City Representative to Urban Water Institute City Representative to Orange County Fire Authority City Representative to the Coastal Greenbelt Authority Laguna Niguel + Al Qaim Sister City Committee Board of Directors of the Niguel Botanical Preserve Executive Council Mihaylo College of Business and Economics, CSU Fullerton Founding Board Member of the Orange Coast Watershed and Environmental Center Board of Directors of the Orange Coast Watershed and Environmental Center Chairman of the Board of Directors of International Orphan Care In September 2003, October 2005 and November 2007, Mike traveled to Afghanistan to visit the projects that International Orphan Care operates and supports in Afghanistan. In recognition of his charitable work in Afghanistan, Mike received the Bravo for Bravery Medal from the American Red Cross Orange County Chapter. Mike is a member of the Rotary Club of Laguna Niguel (President for 2005-06), Sierra Club, South Coast YMCA, Chi Epsilon - National Civil Engineering Honor Society, Tau Beta Pi - National Engineering Honor Society, American Society of Civil Engineers and American Water Works Association. His hobbies include hiking, back packing and travel. |
