Seventeen years as a Trustee for Irvine Unified taught me to both recognize and appreciate good governance. The important elements of good governance are transparent decision-making, respectful dialogue between members, staff and the public, and decisions made in public. This is not Irvine's City Council!

Partisan politics and disrespectful discourse is the norm. The public is often ridiculed for commenting on the city business and decisions seem to be made long prior to public meetings.

Three principles guide my decisions all in a transparent environment and with the public's interest paramount.
1. Planning. Irvine became the city it is because of careful planning. Assessment of community needs and interest along with the vision of a safe and balanced community guided Irvine development.
2. Collaboration. The various components and subpopulations of the community all have view of decisions whether on wireless ordinances, strategic planning for children and families, schools, or mass transit. The balance of residential and commercial interests, safety, parks and open space are important to keep Irvine thriving.
3. Fiscal responsibility. Increasingly we see our economy in trouble. These economic forces can only affect the city and the services we provide. With the Great Park becoming increasingly expensive, we must rethink the direction we are headed. The issues of mass transportation are important to our traffic and air quality but not for free and especially not when ridership is so low.

It is time to change the council to reflect both the needs and the voice of the community. My experience and leadership will benefit both the city and it's residents. Change is important. Transparency is critical. Real collaborations will both enrich our community and save money in the long term
