• 1987 - 1990: Fled Viet Nam for freedoom, spent almost 3 years in Thailand and the Philippines refugee camps.

• 1990 + 1991: Worked part time and studied Offset Printing at East Los Angeles Vocational Center, learned English as a Second Language at Evans Community Adult School.

• 1991 - 1994: Associate of Arts & Science (A.A., A.S.), General Education, Pasadena City College.

• 1994 - 1997: Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Civil Engineering, California Polytechnic University, Pomona.

• 1997 - 2003: Civil Engineer, RBF Consulting firm in Irvine.

• 2003 - current: Associate Civil Engineer, City of Newport Beach.

• Registered Civil Engineer (RCE / PE) by the California Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.

• Special Education Advocate Trainee, one of 20 candidates for the Special Education Advocate Training (SEAT) Project in 2006, funded by the US Department of Education, Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS).

• Wife, Lynn Tran, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, California State University, Los Angeles; Registered Public Health Nurse / Case Manager, Orange County Healthcare Agency.

• Responsible husband and father of 3 daughters: Emily Tran, 8 years old; Vina "Mimi" Tran, 6 years old (attending Hayden Elementary School); and Leyna Tran, 2 years old (attending John Land Preschool).
