Christina Shea was elected to the Irvine City Council in a landslide victory in 1992. She was elected Mayor in 1996 and re-elected in 1998. After a two-year absence from public office, she was elected to the Irvine City Council in 2002 for four-year team. A strong supporter of local law enforcement, Shea has seen the City of Irvine designated as one of America's Safest Cities. Shea has been named an Orange County "Leader of the Year" by the Conservative Women's Leadership Association and featured as one of the "Most Influential Women in Orange County" by Orange County Metro Magazine. Dedicated to sound fiscal policies, Shea has consistently opposed municipal tax increases, supported privatization, and during her years as Mayor of Irvine, helped streamline Irvine's municipal services and staff while maintaining a high quality of city services. Shea has served as a board member of the El Toro Reuse Planning Authority, the Transportation Corridor Agencies, the Orange County Sanitation District, and the Orange County Great Park. Shea has contributed her services to numerous volunteer organizations, including serving on the Board of Directors of the American Cancer Society and the Irvine Child Care Project and on the Advisory Board and past Capital Campaign Director for Human Options. In addition, Shea serves on the Orange County Republican Central Committee. In 2008, Shea was honored as the 70th California Assembly District Woman of the Year. Assemblyman Chuck DeVore (R-Irvine) who made the selection, said " I chose Christina because of her consistent history of both upholding fiscal responsibility and promoting good government." Shea has lived in Irvine since 1977, currently residing in the village of Quail Hill. In her private life, she is a consultant for independent business owners and a realtor with Century 21 Professionals in Irvine. |
