Dear Friends, For the past 16 years I have been honored to be your school board member. This year I am running for reelection and would appreciate your support. During my tenure, the Huntington Beach City School District has realized many outstanding accomplishments. Our achievements have included test scores that have risen every year, a modernization of all our campuses, improved delivery of special education programs, and California and Federal distinguished school awards. We have accomplished all this while operating within our budget. Our main challenges have centered on financial issues. With the State of California's troubled budget situation, and the lack of proper funding year after year, it has become even more critical to make every dollar count. As a fiscal conservative, I do not believe in spending money we do not have. The funds we receive should go to the classroom first for the education of our children, as that is our first priority. We have also been challenged with the proper handling of our closed school sites. I am pleased to tell you, after much due diligence, we have renewed the leases at the Burke and Gisler sites with Huntington Christian School, and Brethren Christian School. These decisions, both of which I supported, provided fair leases to both the school district and the private schools, and allowed longevity for their programs. Most importantly the community was able to keep the fields for youth sports and open space. This was a Win-Win decision. We are actively working to finalize the sale of the LeBard site to the City of Huntington Beach. This plan will allow the City to convert the entire site into a park, and maintain the fields for youth sports. This is the position I support, however our district needs to receive a fair offer for the property. This would be a Win-Win situation assuring the district the funding to complete school site projects and the community the open space. As for the Kettler site, we will be able to make a decision on this property once the LeBard issue is finalized. As I see it, there are two major options for this site. We could move the district education center to this location, or we could lease the site. I appreciate any support you can give my campaign. I have the experience and commitment to help this school district continue to be successful in educating our children. Sincerely yours, Brian Rechsteiner BrianRechsteiner@verizon.net http://www.ElectMcGoughandRechsteiner.com |
