Board Member; Anaheim City School District

We must continue to ensure growth in student achievement. In addition to our children demonstrating basic proficiency skills, they need to develop educational excellence. During my tenure, the District exceeded state targets by 215%, with all 24 schools showing improved results. We established new basic skills and English acquisition standards. Two schools (Barton and Guinn) earned California Distinguished School awards.

In order to successfully educate the children of Anaheim, the District requires the best teachers and staff. ACSD teachers are the highest paid in Orange County. We created a New Teacher Academy for continued professional development.

Even with declining enrollment, ACSD schools are overcrowded. We passed a $111,000,000 bond and with those funds have modernized or newly constructed all 24 sites within budget and on schedule. More work is in progress, in accordance with the bond requirements. We were able to return 19 schools to a single track schedule. We obtained an additional $6,000,000 grant for classroom computer technology and $8,400,000 as Healthy Kids Safe Schools grant.
