As your city councilman I will work for our city and its residents on a full time basis. There are several issues that are important.
TERM LIMITS: I co-signed the ballot initiative to change the waiting period for termed out council members from four years to two years. My perspective is not relavant to any current elected officials but to fairness in the future.
FIREWORKS: Illegal fireworks are a continuing problem for many in our community. The recent ordinance has had an effect, but even "safe and sane" fireworks are a health hazard for some people. While I do not favor a complete ban, I will look for alternative sites to allow them away from neighborhoods.
EMINENT DOMAIN: This process has been abused to benefit private parties and should only be used for actual public purposes that benefit the entire community.
COUNCIL DISTRICTS: Expanding the council to seven members with six elected in districts will better serve the public by giving all areas of our city full representation. It will also give potential candidates a fairer chance of campaigning.
WATER USAGE: Because sewer rates are based on water usage and we are in a drought condition, constant monitoring is a necessity. When a customers usage is higher or lower than normal a notification should be sent to the property owner alerting them of potential problems.
REDEVELOPEMENT: With a downtern in the economy it may be necessary to look for smaller projects to fill developement areas. The city council serving as the agency allows them to receive the same information for cosideration. A suggestion that the agency be elected seperately would create a communication problem. Expanding the agency to seven members with two of them elected at large would give the community more involvement.
