Creating a safer, cleaner and more secure Stanton.By Alex LamCandidate for Council Member; City of Stanton | |

The number one goal is to have Stanton residents feel safer and more secure within their community. And part of the safety and security issue in a Stanton has to do with its image. Thus, if we improve the image of the city then naturally we will improve the security issue within Stanton.I intend to work with both the residential and business community to implement a city-wide neighborhood watch. By doing so, not only would we promote unity amongst the community by getting people involved but would also deter criminals from breaking the law because they know the whole city is watching them. I also intend to work with city planning to increase street lights so that the streets are better lit at night. Studies have shown that crimes usually occur in darker parts of the city where it is not well lit because it conceals their identity and actions. But most importantly, I hope to work with local sheriffs to increase patrolling. Having law enforcements patrolling the neighborhood not only help people feel more secure in where they live, but it will also acts as a visual deterrent for criminals from even thinking about breaking the law. I also intend to incorporate our current anti-graffiti program with a new city beautification program that will not only reduce the trash and graffiti in Stanton but will also protect our environment and promote "green" options. Not only that, studies have shown that there is a correlation between graffiti and gang infestation. Thus, if we reduce the graffiti, we will reduce the infestation of gangs. With respect to the new city beautification program, I will look into implementing an anti-loitering program to reduce human congestion on sidewalks. I also intend on working closely with the courts to have those who commit crimes within Stanton be sentenced with community service to clean up Stanton, instead of having them take up jail spaces. It's a new program that not many other cities have except for Los Angeles, which I intend to mirror our program after. My theory is why spend taxpayers' money to have our city cleaned when we can punish those who break the laws in our city by having them clean up our city for us. |
