I believe that the City of Irvine needs to refocus itself on its four key responsibilities:
1. Keeping you safe
2. Maintaining adequate roads and traffic infrastructure
3. Maintaining the parks and common areas and keeping them pleasant
4. Collecting the garbage

Everything else is a distraction.

The City of Irvine needs to run like a business, and that means not spending more money than it takes in. The reserves should be utilized for the sole purpose of maintaining necessary and critical city services in times of prolonged economic hardship, or in times of emergency where public safety is in jeapardy.

I believe that in Irvine, given its Council-Manager form of governance, the role of the City Council is akin to that of a Board of Directors, i.e. it exists to set city policy, the execution of which is handled by the City Manager.

It gives me pause when candidates view the role as a full-time, "24/7" job.
