Our Vision Keeping Our Neighborhood Safe "I will make protecting and enhancing our neighborhoods a top priority for the City of Fullerton." In these uncertain economic times it is more important than ever that we take action to stabilize and enhance our neighborhoods and preserve our property values. Poorly planned development that is incompatible with existing neighborhoods, failure to address cut-through traffic impacts on our neighborhoods, failure to provide for the enhancement of our existing housing stock and a lack of investment in the types of programs that reduce crime and graffiti all contribute to the deterioration of our neighborhoods. Protecting Our Quality of Life "I will ensure that any decision I make as a member of the City Council is based on the meaningful participation of the public and is supported by our community. I will also ensure that any development projects I approve are of the highest quality design, benefit the public and remain respectful of private property rights." As I talk with people throughout the community I hear over and over again that people feel cut out of the decision-making process here in Fullerton and that they don't feel that our city has a plan. Many decisions that have been made in recent years, especilly those concerning development projects, have not been reflective of a shared vision for our community's future. This needs to change. As an experienced meeting facilitator I don't fear public input. I embrace it because I know that the people of Fullerton have great ideas and that together we can create a positive vision for the future of our community. Restoring the Public's Trust in City Hall "I will use my knowledge of Fullerton and experience in local government to restore responsible, ethical, common-sense decision-making to our City Council." Today some Fullerton Council Members openly ridicule their fellow citizens during public meetings, allow their decision-making to be influenced by a relatively small sector of the public and are often-times so out of touch with the community that no one understands the thought processes or motivations for their actions. This is damaging to our community and sends a signal to the public, to our business community and to our neighboring cities that Fullerton is not governed by knowledgeable and experienced leaders. Improving Our City's Financial Strength "I will implement policies that ensure our business community will prosper now and in the future and I will seek creative ways to find new revenue streams to enhance our City's fiscal health." Providing for an environment in which all members of our business community can thrive will ensure that our City has the resources it needs to provide excellent public services. In addition, a fiscally conservative approach to managing our City's resources will strengthen Fullerton's position as a premiere business and residential community. Preserving Open Space and Improving Our Environment "I will work to preserve our community's remaining open spaces and implement new policies that will improve and protect our environment." There has never been a more a critical time for our city than today as we face important decisions about the development of our remaining open spaces, plan for ways to protect and improve our environment and begin to address issues of sustainability for the future. Fullerton should be in the forefront of environmental leadership and we can lead by example by using sustainable and green practices throughout our city. |
