Candidate StatementBy Ric CloughCandidate for Board Member; Brea Olinda Unified School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Through teaching in the college classroom, I get to see firsthand the students that are sent on by our public schools. As a result of this experience, I know what skills our children need to be successful in the remainder of their educational and professional lives. I now want to bring this professional experience to the Brea Olinda School Board. No other current candidate has the education, professional background or experience that I can bring to our schools. Compare and see for yourself. Education is very important to me. I value higher education, having received a Masters Degree from Cal State Fullerton. I have taken my education and my professional experience into the college classroom, wanting to pass it on to our young adults so they can be productive in our community. I know that the reputation of our schools played an important role when many of you moved to Brea, lets keep it that way. We need to continue our emphasis on academics, athletics, arts programs and staff members that have the talent our children deserve. My goal is to work side-by-side with community leaders, board members and school staff to enhance our current school system in every possible way. With this more cooperative effort, and by using all of our available community resources, we can make our schools even better. Our state is currently facing a major budget deficit, ultimately having an impact on our school budget and our children. I believe we should work on focusing our dollars to make sure they are spent as wisely as possible, while working to maintain competitive salaries that will ensure we recruit and retain a talented staff. The school board is currently looking at the safety of our schools. I can bring the experience of over 14 years in law enforcement to the board, which is something the board will need while it looks into this issue. As they move forward with school safety issues, I will work to make sure we take all necessary steps to guarantee the safest environment possible. We all know that a new elementary school is long overdue. My experience as a city planning commissioner will help bring the school board a step closer to realizing this construction. I understand the restrictions that are imposed on developments and the process that gets construction underway. I will work to make sure that our projects keep moving along. Please take a close look. When compared, you will find I have the experience and qualifications that are needed on our school board. I ask for your vote on November 4th and I thank you for your support! |
