I am seeking this office after much consideration and thought, and after witnessing a long, slow decline in the esteem with which our once proud community college system is viewed.
I have seen the system become a safe haven for privileged, protected bureaucrats who channel resources into favored departments while cutting others.
These valuable institutions should be at the heart of our communities, with programs, classes, athletic facilities and events that serve the entire population.
Local high school graduates should have reason to be proud of community college attendance and their education should be equally rigorous and enriching. Students seeking transfer should have confidence in the education they have received.
Vocational programs should prepare students for real jobs, well paying and valuable. Community colleges should serve their communities as much as they receive support from them.
the comommunity supports the colleges.
