Councilmember; City of Pomona; District 4

Primo Castro is a candidate with the passion, qualifications, and bold vision to improve the quality of life for those that work, play, and live within the great City of Pomona. As a homegrown Pomona resident, Primo understands the traditions, values, and desires of the community. He is an experienced public servant and community activist- the ideal candidate for City Council District 4 who you can count on to pursue the people's agenda and best interests.

Primo Castro, a graduate of the Pomona Unified School District attended Allison Elementary, Emerson Middle, and Pomona High Schools. Thereafter, Primo received a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science from Michigan State University where he served as President of Phi Alpha Delta pre-law fraternity and worked as a Manager in the Government Documents Library at the university. He is currently pursuing a Masters in Public Administration from Cal State Long Beach.

With a successful track record of working in the California State Legislature, Primo's ability to utilize government offices and resources to help individuals and communities is well noted. His current position of Senate Deputy for the California State Senate provides experience and professionalism working in government.

Dedicated to serving others, Primo is involved with numerous non-profit organizations and community service programs. He is currently a mentor for the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, has served in various committees including with the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF), Southwest Voter Registration Education Project (SVREP), and the Cesar Chavez Tribute Committee of the Inland Empire.

Primo brings to Pomona the leadership and knowledge to improve the community's quality of life. He has served as the Chair for the Community Life Commission with the City of Pomona since 2005. Through his work with the Commission, Primo understands the importance of investing and helping meet the needs of the Pomona community. Primo is committed to providing programs to create a healthy and safe environment for youth and families.

Primo is the oldest of four and the first in his family to attend college. He serves as a role model to his younger siblings, all who have attended schools in Pomona. He is currently helping raise his younger sister who is a sophomore in Pomona High School. Primo is a son of the Pomona community who was raised with family and hardworking values who will tirelessly advocate on behalf of our community.

Recently, Primo married Melba Schneider Castro and lives within the Historic Lincoln Park community. Melba is the Director of First Year Success Programs at UC Riverside and has dedicated her career to helping underserved students access higher education. Primo and Melba have served as mentors to many of our youth in the community. They value the importance of education and understand the challenges many adolescents in our community face today.
