Dear Friends and Neighbors, My family and I moved to Latrobe ten years ago to experience life in the country. Since that time, our three children have all been educated in the Latrobe School District. Our oldest son is now a senior at UC San Diego studying Chemistry, our middle daughter is a Registered Dental Assistant and a sophomore at Folsom Lake College with plans of attending Dentistry school, and our youngest daughter is in the fourth grade at Miller's Hill. I have been involved in my children's education in the Latrobe School District since 1999. I am a past president of the Latrobe Parent Teacher Club having been in that capacity for two and one-half years. I was also the Spelling Bee coach for both my son's and middle daughter's teams and most recently, an assistant coach for my youngest daughter's Nature Bowl team. I volunteer at the school and attend all school functions. I have been on the Latrobe School Board for four years and have been the board president. Under the direction of the existing board, of which I am a proud member of, both schools in the district have seen copious changes in the last four years; the creation of an auditorium at Latrobe, new classrooms, artificial turf, recycled tire mats under the play equipment and landscaping improvements. Miller's Hill is now a solar school and one of only a few in El Dorado County. All improvements to both schools were possible without an increase in property taxes. In over 1000 schools in the state of California, the Latrobe School District is in the top 50 academically performing districts and our 2008 scores are higher than the previous year. The Latrobe School Board currently has a unified, dedicated team, lead by an extremely dedicated, experienced, proactive Superintendent. I sincerely hope I will be allowed to continue with the Latrobe School Board as our total vision for these schools' future has yet to be realized. Janet |
