Much has been accomplished in the past few years. A clear plan to maintain our prgress is in place and the results are clear.I have been privileged to serve on The Buckeye Board for the past four years. During this period, the Board adopted a long range plan which promotes student learning, supports appropriate facilities and emphasizes fiscal accountability. The District has implemented programs which focus on improving achievement for all students. The experience and knowledge of Buckeye teachers are used to develop and enhance curriculum and instruction. Assessments are used to more effectively determine each child's progress and differentiated teaching methods are being developed to better address these learning opportunities. Remediation and enrichment programs have been developed and Buckeye is among the few Districts which offer instruction during the summer and extended break periods. The Board endorsed, and the community supported, Measure K which is leading to substantial renovation of our older schools. The results to date can be seen on several campuses the most notable of which is Camerado. This work will continue through 2009. Additionally, technology at all the schools has been updated and new instructional equipment is being added. The school lunch program has been upgraded and middle school students are now offered choices of nutritionaly balanced meals. Once the new food service facility is completed (by the 09 school year), all District schools will be provided improved menu options.Measure K also permitted the District to consolidate its schools to a single calendar. Parents have expressed appreciation for this since siblings at different K-8 schools now have the same schedule. Teachers also benefitted since they can better collaberate within the school and at grade level throughout the District. During the past four years, the Board adopted fiscally responsible budgets which included funding a reserve that could be used to offset State budget reductions. Some of this money is being used now. As a result, the Buckeye District has not experienced the same hardship seen throughout the State with respect to staff and program cuts. The Buckeye District is a top performing district. As a Board member, I am committed to our goal of being among the top ten percent of similar districts statewide. This means continuously seeking ways to make the school experience of our children even better. I would be honored if voters provide me the opportunity to continue my service to the children of out District. |
