Niel Tam dedicated his entire career to the needs of Alameda's children serving Earhart, Miller, Wood, Washington and Mastick schools.

Tam strongly believes in high expectations for student success. He recently retired from a successful 2-year position as Principal of Washington Elementary School improving its California State ranking from 4 to 7.

Tam is a caring leader and has a compassionate concern and support for families in economic transition and students with special needs, while empowering families to strive for educational success.

Tam received the 2008 American Red Cross Award for Community Service and is a San Francisco Foundation Koshland Awardee for community leadership.

Tam has also served tirelessly in the Alameda community through the Alameda Food Bank, Girls Inc., Alameda Point Collaborative, Alameda Soccer Club, the City of Alameda Traffic Commission and the Alameda Library Strategic Planning Committee.

Tam currently chairs the Alameda Multicultural Community Center and holds positions on the boards of Alameda Family Services, as well as Advisory for the Boys and Girls Club.
