We must take a proactive approach to help certified professionals that would be interested in obtaining a teaching credential, and help them to move smoothly through the process.
It is difficult to find experienced and qualified teachers, especially math and science teachers for our Middle School and High School programs. The High School has expanded its college preparatory Math and Chemistry classes encouraging the majority of students to enroll in these classes, making it even more of a challenge. There are Scientists and applied mathematicians who might be interested in teaching positions. Dealing with governmental requirements and regulations to obtain a teaching credential is discouraging. The Castro Valley Unified School District should take a proactive approach. First identifying qualified candidates interested in obtaining a teaching credential, then allocating administrative time to help these potential teachers move smoothly through the credential process and then creating a strong mentor program to help these new teachers succeed.
