The Challenging Road Ahead for Dublin Schools

By John B. Ledahl

Candidate for Board Member; Dublin Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
Although our student results have improved every year for the last 7 years, state budget cuts jeopardize all our work.
Dublin schools are at a crossroads. Although we recently accomplished much in improving student scores, State budget cuts jeopardize our great progress. We have to work harder and smarter with shrinking resources. Especially since we have raised our graduation requirements to the highest levels in the state of California.

These past four years, I have contributed as part of a team of trustees, teachers, parents, and staff to:

  • Improve standards for all K-12 students by raising graduation requirements so that all Dublin graduates are prepared for post-graduate alternatives.

  • Direct more dollars to the classroom for better learning resources.
  • Use tax dollars more efficiently in both curriculum and facilities through the use of technology and teacher training.

I am part of a team. No one trustee can do it all. To focus on the right things I seek out and listen to parents, teachers, and students. I support more classroom academic technology, more teacher training in math and science to challenge all our students, and strong character programs. i have been the champion on the board for a strategic plan, a set of strategic initiatives, and a comprehensive communications plan - all started in the last 4 years and beginning to bear fruit. I also lobby for Comprehensive Health education, K-12 beause how students learn about and change their health behaviors impacts how well they do academically.right now Dublin student graduate without knowing about how to handle nutrition, relationships, drugs, sex, and fitness.

To build more expertise in governing I have completed the School Board Association's Master's in Governance program with training in collective bargaining, student learning, finance, human relations, policy development, and more. As a businessman and credentialed teacher I bring a unique set of skills and knowledge to the board. I am committed to the success of all Dublin students. I would be honored to have your vote. I can be reached at LedahlJohn@dublin.k12.ca.us.
