Gil was born in Los Angeles, California on June 27, 1942. He worked for IBM Corporation for eleven and a half years, after serving two years of active duty with the US Navy. As a Navy Veteran, he gave an oath to defend this country, with my life if necessary, but fortunately that did not have to happen. After campaigning for public office twelve times in the past eleven years, the registered voters recognized his commitment to the community and my potential for leadership. In November of 2006, the registered voters of area D, which includes the San Bernardino Unified School District (the seventh largest school district in California) and the Rialto Unified School District, elected me as a San Bernardino County School Board Member. After losing his wife due to cancer, he raised my three sons on my own. As a single parent, he quickly realized that he needed to keep myself better informed of the progress that my three sons were making in school. For the last eighteen years, he has advocated for children in the public school system. He has represented children with learning disabilities and assisted students with community college and university enrollment. He has also given parents and guardians of young students, the necessary training they need to advocate for their kids. As a Navy veteran, a single parent and a public official he is more than qualified to provide strong leadership to the Inland Empire.
