Republican Paul Hegyi is a conservative with a long history of fighting for conservative causes and candidates. "I've watched Republican voters elect candidate after candidate who campaigns on conservative values, only to vote for bigger government and against reform once elected," said Hegyi. "As the Assemblyman for the 10th I will be a solid conservative vote... I'll be a solid vote for reform and accountability."

Paul's commitment to public service began early. As a young man he volunteered with his family at the Sacramento Surplus Bookroom, a non-profit that saved books from being destroyed and supplied them to needy children, including many home school students and charter schools.

In college, Hegyi worked for Republican Assemblyman Mark Wyland. In the Capitol, Paul developed a clear view of the legislative battles that pitted big-spending, culturally out-of-touch liberals against a divided Republican legislative delegation. When a handful of Republicans broke ranks to vote for a budget that included tax increases and benefits for illegal immigrants, Paul decided something must be done to elect candidates that would not break their promises to Republican voters.

For much of the next decade, Paul helped build Republican Party organizations and elect Republican candidates. His commitment to conservative Republican principles continued by engaging in the public policy process of the legislature, fighting out-of-control spending, benefits for illegal immigrants, and perks for Special Interests and career politicians.

Like many Republicans, Paul Hegyi was angered and disgusted by the ethics scandals and unchecked spending of the Republican Party that led to the massive defeat of the 2006 elections. On that Election Night, as results rolled in, he dedicated himself to what he knew were the real values of the Republican Party: fiscal conservatism, strong ethics, and public safety. He decided that he could best advance these values, and help reform the Republican Party, by running for State Assembly.

Raised and educated in Sacramento, Paul attended Luther Burbank High School where he was Captain of the Swim Team and Executive Officer in the Navy Junior ROTC program. He graduated from Sacramento State University with a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Government and is currently Chief of Staff to Republican Assemblyman Van Tran. Paul and his wife Julie are local homeowners in Sacramento and are parishioners at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament.
