My positions on issues facing us today

By Alice K. Chan

Candidate for Member, Democratic Party County Central Committee; County of Sonoma; Supervisorial District 5

This information is provided by the candidate
It's been said that there isn't an issue that I don't have an opinion on, and that's probably true. Here are just a few that I care deeply about.
SMART - the train between Sonoma and Marin counties: YES.

Proposition 98 - anti eminent domain, also eliminates rent-control: NO.

Proposition 99 -- prevents government from taking private property to benefit corporations for profit; no reference to rent control: YES.

Measure I in Sonoma County -- parcel tax to fund arts and music in schools: YES.

Universal Single-payer health care: YES.

Paper ballots: YES. No more electronic voting machines with secret, proprietary software that prevents us from seeing how the votes are counted. Sonoma County currently uses software to count the optical-scanned ballots we mark, and that software is secret. The County Board of Supervisors is responsible for purchasing this software, and must cancel the contract.

Comprehensive Ground-water Management Plan for Sonoma County: YES.

Schwarzenegger's proposed revival of the peripheral canal, voted down by California years ago: NO.

Death penalty in California: Abolish it now.

No Child Left Behind: Abolish it now.

Military recruiters on high school and college campuses: NO.

Less stringent Federal auto emission standards replacing California's emission standards: NO.
