Evan Patrick Kirvin is a Deputy District Attorney in the San Diego County District Attorney's Office. Evan has prosecuted hundreds of felony cases, including rape, robbery, kidnapping, torture, mayhem, child molestation and first degree murder with special circumstances. He has conducted dozens of felony jury trials, including murder trials. For the past three years, Evan has been assigned to the District Attorney's elite Sex Crimes and Stalking Division, where he prosecutes rapists, child molesters and sexually violent predators. Evan is a former United States Probation Officer in the Southern District of California. He served as Court Officer for United States District Court. Evan supervised federal probationers and parolees residing in San Diego County. Evan also worked as a 911 Operator for the El Cajon Police Department. Evan has also instructed for the Judge Advocate General program with the United States Navy. In addition to his service to the criminal justice system, Evan also serves his community in his free time. His volunteer efforts have included working in the Grossmont Hospital Emergency Room, Homeless Outreach, the 211 Call Center during the recent wild fires, and the Women's Resource Fair. Evan volunteers at Laura G. Rodriguez Elementary School, where he instructs 5th graders on the law. Evan is married to Bryn Kirvin, a San Diego County Deputy District Attorney in the Major Violators Unit. Bryn currently serves on the Board of Directors for Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Evan has been a continuous resident of San Diego since 1973. Evan graduated from the University of California at San Diego cum laude with a BA in history (honors with highest distinction) and received his law degree from the University of San Diego School of Law. On April 29, 2008, the San Diego County Bar Association's Judicial Evaluation Committee announced its ratings of the judicial candidates for the June 3rd election. The Bar rated Evan "Well Qualified," which is the highest rating possible. "Well Qualified" is defined as, "Possessing professional ability, experience, competence, integrity and temperament indicative of superior fitness to perform the judicial function with a high degree of skill and effectiveness." On May 1, 2008, "The San Diego Union-Tribune" (the largest newspaper in San Diego County) officially endorsed Evan for Seat 45. The Union-Tribune stated, "Kirvin is the better choice in the Office 45 race because of his extensive background as a prosecutor. As a deputy district attorney, Kirvin has [prosecuted] hundreds of felony cases, from kidnapping and rape to gang violence and first-degree murder. He is an intelligent, thoughtful advocate for the rule of law and the fair administration of justice." On May 18, 2008, "The San Diego Union-Tribune" published an article comparing the two candidates for the Seat 45 race.
